almost home [or a story of a certain good shepherd]

On the way to Pittsburgh
playing all the songs
that you would soon be singing
in my head the whole night long
we drove on to ohio
cos it wasn’t very far
and told me all your stories
and I let you drive my car

we were almost home
almost home but not quite
it was almost here
almost here but you gave in to the fear

in the corner of my mind
is a place I wont forget
where you asked to be my lover
when you could not be my friend
you live like a tragedy
is holding you in it
making sure that all good things
will end before it’s starting to begin

we were almost home
almost home but not quite
it was almost here
almost here but you gave in to the fear

make your way back this way
I’ll let you in for cups of tea
make your way back this way
and if it’s locked you have the key
